In the past I'd have said they'll never do it. They've been building up their chips fabs to the point where they'll just do eveything in-house anyways soon enough. And they always like to play the waiting game. But I'm increasingly thinking the CHIPS act would not have happened as a pre-emptive "just in case". That's not how congress does things. Since when are they proactive on anything? They know something.

My guess is what they know is that they're going to try to sneak nukes into Taiwan in an effort to take it off the board permanently and things are going to get spicy. They did a nuclear play in Ukraine to escalate as well but it backfired. They had zelensky threaten to get nukes to piss putin off enuf to get him to commit so they could try to crush their economy and regime change him. Didn't really work out tho.

So they're slowly losing Ukraine, and putler is going nowhere, and they'd lose Taiwan too if the Chinese were determined enough to see a blockade through until Taiwan gave in. Conclusion: don't announce it and let China pre-empt you, sneak them in on a cargo ship, and then flip them the bird. The loss of face might just take Xi out. We will see.
