the problem that needs to be addressed first is this "dumb jobs are beneath me" thing, one way to do it is to re-frame the problem - you are not doing the job for the job, but to build up your social skills and fix how you interact with people, or alternatively you want to know the market to build your own company in the future - so you start from the bottom or even that this is a challenge to see if you can figure a way to endgame content... anything will do as long you shift focus from "menial tasks" to building something up, it's similar to a RPG really, killing millions mobs is just stupid grind, but if you do it to save the princess and marry into riches then suddenly it becomes an adventure event though you are doing the same massacre along the way...

other problem is that the friend is undesirable right now as an employee - or rather that there are better people in the market, either edit the resume to cover it up (you can try, you don't need to lie, just don't bring up the failures when not asked) or try to apply to jobs where they don't ask such useless questions, on the other hand important part of the game is dealing with it, can he roll enough charisma to convince recruiter that they hire him for he will do to the company and not his past?

either way having something to convince hr drones will be good, some people apply to companies know for being terrible just to get something in the CV, others work on portfolios or apply for competitions that reward internships.

finally if you are using any online service for job seekers you really need to set up your game with good photo and full profile otherwise you will always be placed at the end of the list by the computer before any human even looks your way

there may be some fear when applying, remember it's their job to reject you so don't reject yourself before applying, according to a research i've read you just need to meet about 60% requirements to pass first filter
