I see. I have looked at the most generalised data, averages of income, and life expectancy. These measures collect many small improvement in people's lives, that might get lost against more attention-grabbing and memorable stories about hierarchy and inequality. On the basic measures, the individual people South Korea have vastly better lives than at any point in their history.
The spread of the quality of life can also be shown by proxy, through a statisitic like guitars per capital. People making music are probably not being extremely repressed and probably have some freedom to enjoy life.

There has never been a better time to be alive, and although the world is still somewhat bad, it is steadily getting better. There will not be a crash. Read a book and feel better.
