Someone want to explain in moderately simple words what this means and how its possible?

https://bitcoinist.com/unknown-miner-sweeps-9000-bitcoin-cash-from-segwit-addresses/

"An unknown miner has swept up nearly 9,000 BCH that were mistakenly sent to SegWit addresses (which are only redeemable on Bitcoin.) Over $3M as of today. "

How does a miner on BCH or Bitcoin "take" the coins someone mistakenly sent to a not-real address. You cant just accidentally send BCH and have it turn into Bitcoin, Id think it would just be lost forever until someone ended up with the wallet address it was sent to. How can you take coins sent to someone elses wallet on a different chain, as a miner.
