No nation wants to willingly embark on a gold standard. Inflationary schemes are what give power to the state, if every state expenditure costs actual money, then with each state expenditure the state loses a modicum of its power. I am of the opinion that the BRICS are/have laid the ground work to introduce a gold backed currency as a lifeboat away from the dying dollar, but I see no reason why they would embark on said lifeboat prematurely. Russia is afterall in a war at the moment and wars are fought with debt, not money.
