Some whale just made a big purchase of ANT, which pushed the price up 10% but then allowed it to fall again to roughly 5% up, but raised the volume by about 20 BTC.

This is what's known to the whales as a buy signal, literally. The big volume spike in a single order pointed in the direction the coni will go is a trick whales use to communicate and signal each other. I'm not kidding. A big volume spike upwards in a single candlestick in one direction or another is a signal the coin will move that direction.
