i like visiting /r/btc but holy shit they are so disrespectful of satoshi lately ever since ABC has announced that they will ignore miners and just split people's coins. fools. if ABC ends up having the weakest chain and everybody just blindly follows the leaders then what's the point of all this? a chain split is coming, not a hard fork. proof of work is how bitcoin is supposed to work, not proof of social media.

as far as i know Solidity is the only option, Serpent i don't know what is (maybe you mean Viper, which isn't done yet) and LLL seems to be something that compiles into Solidity (or later Viper). ill admit im no ETH expert though

what i mean about BCH supporting any language is that you only publish your proof of work on the blockchain, a hash of the code + its result. that's why it scales so well, all calculations are off-chain and anybody can verify any claim when they need or want to.

the scripting language in bitcoin is very basic, Forth-like. right now you can't really put scripts on the chain, the tx becomes non-standard so it doesn't relay between nodes. instead you keep you script off-chain and publish hashes of the scripts (and hashes of results).

eth and bch smart contracts can't be used exactly in the same way as far as i know but I don't think that will stop bch from being useful. it's really good for what it can do, prove that stuff have been done and transfer money, and nothing can ever slow it down (it does scale)

as for the next update in november i think they will enable on-chain tokens and relays of non-standard transactions (meaning non-standard output scripts). this is just a guess but from all ive read and heard it's those two things people want most on bitcoin (bch).

first of all Bitcoin is open-source, it's not a brand and is not owned by anybody. if someone doesn't let you merge code into their repository not only do you have no choice than to make your own repository, it's expected.

second anyone can claim to be the real bitcoin, if they have enough people behind them it is true. right now there are two competing ideas of how bitcoin should be.
