Depending on the location you might still be in luck. One of the most extensive firearm collections on /k/ is located in Switzerland. A lot of euro countries make you jump through insane hoops, but if you're a legit "collector" you can get away with a lot that even us burgers can't own.

I'd even be curious about buying deactivated weapons if I was a European. In a lot of EU countries the barrel is the registered part, and I often see a lot of highly desirable receivers and parts in the EU that I just wish I could import. A lot of the de-mill process can be easily reverted by a competent gunsmith or with replacement parts purchased elsewhere.

That SP5k is staring me down right now. I know I need to buy it while I still can, but just hard to cough up the $3k. I should know better though because I have no problems putting $3k behind some worthless shitcoin.

At least you bought some. I remember finger fucking Russian milsurp at the LGS with my dad as a kid. He never was interested in "those trash commie guns" for $59.99.

Depending on when "just" is you may have already appreciated in value on the WASR. Waiting for any day now when they retail for $1k plus.

As for the coat hanger, it's a registered drop in auto sear. Someone diy'd it and paid the $200 tax stamp back in 1980's, so now in the eyes of the US Govt, that piece of metal is a full fledged machine gun.
