I’ll say this once and hopefully your tiny brains can grasp the concept: the problem that moass fixes is less “excessive shorting” and more “too many shares exist because somebody’s been selling without borrowing them first.” Speculation is that there’s over a billion shares out there when only 303M are “real,” but all shares must be treated as though they’re real. Yes, even the ones you call IOUs. Especially the IOUs, if the market wants to keep even the illusion of legitimacy
How do you fix that problem? If you want to avoid Minecraft, you buy them off whoever owns them until the right number of shares exist. Where are those shares? The float can be DRS’d, sure, but where’s all the “extras” that were printed into existence? The ones that need to get bought back? That’s right, you’ve thought about it for five seconds and realized that they’re in broker accounts
