I just got a 20k RSU bonus from the startup I work at valued at $0.01 per share. CEO said it's to minimize my tax burden or something and that the IRS might not like it but we'll try anyways. I know the real valuation of the company and it's higher than a penny a share.

What did he mean by that though? How would undervaluing the shares I'm getting help with my taxes?
