Because they think all that crypto is is a get rich quick scheme. They don't understand how it works, or why people care about it.
They see 'digital currency' and think they're all the same.
To a completely uninformed bystander XRP looks pretty good, purely because it has fast transactions compared to BTC, ETH or whatever else. They don't know that it's able to achieve this because it's centralized, basically no different from a bank's accounting software.
They also don't know that Ripple dumps on them constantly and that their ledger software doesn't need the token.

Their consensus mechanism is basically proof of stake without a stake. That means nodes must be trusted and added to a specific trusted list called the UNL.
That entirely defeats the point of cryptocurrencies, it's no longer a decentralized currency. It's banking software with a built in continual ICO scam.
