That it used to be possible because less regulation meant traders could get the inside information to trade off of, but now it really is a gamble. And not to buy based on earnings, that you must listen to the conference call.
earnings time can be a great time to get into a stock, DCA before and after the call (add more before or after depending on how it is expected to go)
