Race-baiting aside, the same thing happens with a lot of people who go from having no money to having lots of money all at once. It happened to a friend of mine:

>19 years old, maybe $200 to his name at any given time
>his distant grandfather dies and leaves behind oil land in TX
>family sells it off and doles out inheritance according to the trust documents
>suddenly my friend has $50k and no idea what to do with it
>despite all the advice from people who have handled money a long time, he spends it on a variety of stupid shit
>a new car ($25k in 2007 dollars)
>a three bedroom apartment even though he's single and expressed no desire for a roommate
>weed. lots and lots of weed.
>eventually gets caught up in a MLM and alienates all of his old friend group in favor of the "new" friends
>gets a DUI while hanging out with these new "friends"
>has to pay huge fines
>MLM flatout abandons him when he reveals he's broke
>now he's living in the attic of a little old lady out on a farm, still talking about how he's going to make it big with no capital, inventory, or business plan

Many such cases, very sad
