Then how it (light) reaches us? What do they mean when they say that the light takes 8 minutes to reach the earth.

If this is so then creating a fully functional artificial sun doesn't seems far fetch apart from the technology that it would require. Maybe when can destroy the sun before it expands absorbing the earth and put an artificial one, supposing such thing is ever going to happen and the sun actually does that thing in 4billion yrs from now.

All this makes me think of the force from star wars and how they described it.
