aside from investment reasons, what is the value in a bitcoin? i've read about them and i see the usefulness of blockchains as a mechanism for transactions, but if nobody is offering currency or goods in exchange for the bitcoin, why would i want one? and not necessarily a bitcoin, any crypto-currency or digital asset.
going to ripple's website, they use a whole bunch of buzzwords to basically say they are a currency broker, which itself makes sense, disrupting the finance sector, but they do so with the same process, simply putting their token in place of the broker, and you still encounter frictional costs when converting your coin into the currency you desire. in essence it seems to me the entire crypto market is built upon scalping currency traders and as the fees for currency trading go down, the use case for crypto deteriorates and liquidity drains out.
the next use i can think of is hypothetical, look at argentina and turkey and their history of currency failures. not to get too down the rabbit hole but when country's currencies fail like that, it is usually the result of international finance, intelligence agencies, and high-level politcal military leaders acting in concert. during times of national currency devaluation or crises, digital currencies could be used to get USD into the hands of strategic people in an effort to sway events in the aftermath of a crisis, so there is a state-level use case i guess, but one that makes it prone to extreme manipulation and fluctuations.
