We're stuck in a cycle where the only way to tamp down on inflation is to attack consumer purchasing power, which almost always leads to a recession (wherein companies that ought to die don't necessarily do, but the people they have to lay off to survive definitely suffer). This is not the only way to stop inflation, but it is if you don't have the productive capacity to funnel the dollars your print into actually making the things that make the economy grow or at least remain stable.

This is probably by design and won't end until a critical mass of elites are facing an existential crisis due to this paradigm.
