>I'm more afraid of ending up in some kind of hell than dying of cancer.

Arent we all, my friend...

Here's how I would guide someone to start. If you have limited time, jump into the book of Matthew. This is the first book of the New Testament where Jesus is born. Let this be your guide to your remaining time here with us, and keep a few other things in mind:

>One must accept Christ's sacrifice (an excruciating death) on the cross, as his death and sacrifice (that of not only a sin-free perfect man, but also of literal god himself) is the ONLY way that your sins in this life may be forgiven, if you accept his death in your place, for YOUR sins committed in this life. One must accept this sacrifice, and Jesus as your Lord & Savior, when you're ready

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me

>John 14:6

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son

>John 3, 16-17

Based Jesus was incarnate and died on this earth so that you (and anyone/everyone else who is willing to accept his sacrifice) may know eternal life!

>One must repent of their sins, try to live as perfect of a Christian life as they can, and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior

Also - if you have time - and you want to learn about the concept of God, what he is and isnt, and how we can interact with him, I highly recommend a book called "The Orthodox Way", which is also on Amazon and I think in pdf online.
