It's a CCR5 point deletion I believe. I don't believe the mechanism it plays in bubonic plague is understood but the HIV virus needs a normal CCR5 receptor to enter TH cells.
Fun fact: CCR5 (or rather the lack thereof) also has a correlation with IQ which is probably the real reason those twins in China were edited to have a CCR5 knockout mutation
