Mining Ethereum vs Ethereum Classic

Miners seem to be worried about the change to POS for Eth, so a ton of people are switching to Etc. I'm still hashing away at Eth though, because the way I see it, I should accumulate as much as possible before the switch. Also, ETH is almost always the most profitable to mine, although once in a while ETC will take the top spot for a few hours. So I don't get why people are switching to ETC when eth performs better and you can always just shapeshift to ETC for airdrops and the such. Am I missing something? I know this board is mostly about markets but thought maybe you guys had a different view.
