I'm telling you as someone who graduated as a club officer in OXE and TBP that what you're describing isn't reality. Most people avoid even small amounts of extra responsibility, and the elections for the president of a fairly large club rarely have more than 2-3 entrants. Besides, just being a minor officer is enough to get you involved in planning and organizing with sponsors and alumni, which is what you really want. And honestly, if you're not able to prove to people you're probably working with and hanging around for 2-3 years that you aren't a fuckup and should be trusted, maybe you really are a fuckup.

Also, people want to know a person at least in a vague sense before they commit to trusting them with anything. We're hard wired for it; we didn't have resumes as hunter gatherers, we had tribe members. And when we needed to know who was the best guy for dealing with bee hives we asked the people we trusted about it. You seem to believe that all jobs should be handed out on the basis of resume strength, probably because you're shit at interviewing because you're awkward and clearly lack confidence. What the fuck do you think letters of recommendation are dude? That's professional nepotism by your standards, because your employers or teachers are vouching for you before a future boss and saying, yeah I trust this guy.
