I'm going to grad school for Finance in Tokyo in September. Talked to a bunch of westerners who work there and the job market is pretty good if I can manage to learn workable Japanese.

Because Japan isn't growing, Japanese companies looking to expand internationally and thus a lot more international deals are going on. Unfortunately, the Japanese suck at English. So, if you have finance industry experience and speak business level Japanese, you're set. Way easier to break into private equity or IB roles than western countries (as an english speaker) due to the labour supply being so low. Hours are probably better as well (from hell to hell-lite). At least the Japs apperantly get most weekends off.

It's hard to attract talent when Japanese is a hard language and everyone fell for the "Japan expensive and has bad hours" meme. Competing for roles in English countries for any white collar role is going to be hard mode in the coming years, as you're going to be competing against every indian and internationally educated chinese dude.
