it got popular because for a while, mining was 3x more profitable than equihash

it was a lot like btcs run to 20000 and down to hell but a much quicker timeframe, but there was a large window of real market activity

pools couldnt remain sufficiently decentralized incidentally much like btc itself and a lot of miners were forced out

unironically if everyone on /biz/ made a fair mining pool and got 30-40% of the network hashrate, the whole board could be profiting
