Officially about half of all the gold ever mined has gone missing, and likely it is at the bottom of the ocean or lost in forgotten vaults. One interesting tid bit of info from the 19th century, when people really didnt trust banks, they would often hide their gold coinage or bullion next to fence posts or power / telegraph lines marked with a symbol or even a specific rock. This worked surprisingly well, as even today caches of these coins are still found in California and the Pacific northwest. Another lost insane amount of bullion happened when the Mexican Emperor was deposed, his bullion was sent by loyalists to the US border where men in the US would stash it for his sons return to power. No one has any idea where that estimated 9 tonnes of gold went.

>One sample drilled had a solid 11 inch section of gold, the type of motherload find from the stories

Holy shit, now thats what I am always hoping to find, still though I would prefer a nice foot ball nugget like pic related.
