To all the newfags buying into "chainlink": The real chainlink (as in the tokens that will actually be necessary for node operation and the tokens that will actually be paid to node operators) is known as shadowlink, which was created via unpublicized fork in early 2018. Although the chainlink concept purports to be a "decentralized" oracle, it by necessity requires a degree of human oversight, and so the initial plan was to limit the distribution of chainlink tokens to a controlled number of individuals and entities - a large group to be sure but not anywhere near what happened in actual practice (purely by mistake). This is why they on purpose made the ICO super expensive (300 ETH) to buy in.

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, 4chan latched onto chainlink early and the token proliferated too rapidly (and, in particular, to many "untrusted" parties) as a result. The team simply didn't plan on 4chan members to pool their ETH and buy in too, and then spread the info about chainlink's potential. The powers that be didn't even want the token listed, but it was an erc-20 token, and exchanges don't need permission to list them. Binance listed it anyway (back before they were as popular as they are now), and the bottom fell out of the original "controlled distribution" scheme. Obviously tokens couldn't be retrieved from purchasers, so a page was taken from the ETH/ETC/DAO fiasco, with one critical change - the protocol fork wouldn't be made known to the masses.

Tech insider from BXL here.

The shadowforking of Chainlink already took place, shortly after the ico SWIFT knew they fucked up by hiring Sergey
It became clearer each day that a white overweight autist as CEO immediately attracted a bunch of pseudo intellectuals neets from the cesspool 4chan so they came up with a new plan.

They needed to shadowfork Chainlink into a project with CEO's so repulsive to /biz/ that you guys wouldn't invest, but still reliable enough for big investors.
Two pajeets from Stanford University were perfect and so Mobius was created.

Everyone who talks about this ends up going missing. Even Bizonacci, who thought he was too popular to be disappeared, is gone now. I'm tired of keeping this secret, and I'm tired of seeing so many marines vanish. There are clues about the shadowfork in most of bizonacci's videos, especially in crab 17. Everyone who is in on the fork knows that. If I tell you anymore than that, they might be able to identify me; they give each person slightly different breadcrumbs so they'll know who to go after if leaks happen. DYOR. I've got a boat to catch (or do I?).

It was a byproduct of the shadowfork FUD.
Some anon posted a "shadowforked" version of LINK, then others realized how exploitable the LINK logo was and started making parodies of it (and inevitably someone made a nazi version).

I think this entire meme might have contributed into the team changing the logo, especially considering the fact that the new logo can't really be used to create OC.

So glad I was able to get in on this. I will seriously kek so hard at all the LINKies who only held their now worthless LINK when the true singularity happens. Who else /comfy/ as fuck right now because they were smart enough to opt-in to the fork last year?
