Historically yes but that's the thing about stocks, ostensibly only successful companies get listed and successful companies tend to stay or get absorbed by bigger more successful ones. Far more likely shit picks would get turned into better ones upon acquisition. Very seldomly you see shit like Enron, much harder to anticipate. Especially in a recession being a bear is harder since you have to figure out which parts of the economy wont magically become more valuable before the rest goes up. Predicting absolute failure sounds easy but just ask the biotech people for their portfolios.
