Yeah what is that bullshit about?

In 2020 I made a one time profit with stocks (like 100k€) and had to pay around 25k in taxes. In late 2021 they sent me a letter where from 2021 onwards I should pay capital gains taxes quarterly in advance and only after 2021 is over I could have handed in a tax return to get the capital gains taxes back if I didn't made any gains.

This was already Q3 of 2021 so the letter even said I should pay up for the first two quarters.

I wrote back to the Finanzamt that they were being ridiculous and I had not made any money with stocks since then. Also send them my account statements. Then they kind of said ok, you don't have to pay in advance and we will just correct your taxes the normal way.

This went well but I imagine many normal Michels just pay up.
