Last bullrun, I noticed that every week, some different altcoin would moon. If you just put $1000 into some random new altcoin of your choosing in the top 50 or so, you could easily make a nice return just waiting on that moon.

But I think it's a bit different this time as the SEC is really pursuing exchanges and projects that look like their coins/tokens are securities. If you buy the wrong one, you may not be able to even sell it when the time is right because the SEC has called it a security, causing exchanges to delist it.
