just watched this video from martin shkreli and i think he brings up some very good points about passive investing

tl;dw he says 8% index fund returns are a myth when one accounts for inflation and taxes. much later in the video he says that if you are unwilling to put in the time to truly scout out stocks, then you are wasting your money investing.

while i understand both of these points, if i wanted to make some money, should i invest in an index fund and just accept i'm making around 4-5%?

what should my short term index fund strategy be? should i wait for the next depression to start with us stock funds? should i go with international stock or bonds then transfer them?
