They'll give you emergency treatment regardless of what you say, so you can't avoid the bill. But you can just not pay it. The hospital may or may not sue you, then they could get a judgment saying you owe them XYZ. If not then the debt may go away after 7 years.
To protect your cash use a Roth IRA or LLC, it's just a pain getting the earnings out. In my state distributions from an IRA are protected from (((creditors))) for 60 days so I can distribute to my bank account then pay for things even if the hospital sued me and got a judgment saying I owe them. Also here they can't (((garnish))) your wages or take your house or car.
I don't know how you would move it out of an LLC, maybe distributing a dividend to someone else who's co owner?
