Ya lot of VCs took advantage of the fact that there were real projects in the space with world-changing tech to launder scams to normies. Eventually they realized they oversold retail on crap and the unravelling of centralized players we're seeing now is revealing all the ways in which they had to contort themselves to prop up the illusion.
It's like if when Henry Ford was a couple years out from releasing the model-T, some start up that came out of nowhere started selling "cars" to people to try to cut out Ford from the car market but in reality there are midget employees hidden inside the "cars" who push them around Flintstone style. Now people are screaming about how cars are a scam and how stupid the technology is and people who invested in the fake car company are now broke because they couldn't differentiate between a model-T engine and a midget.
