Gown ups do the same with their portfolio, they reduce volatility (aka risk) of their portfolio by balancing it to something less volatile or even anti cyclic.

That doesn't matter me none, as the miners are in my ETF and the money value of my gold can go up or down, but the amount of gold i have will never change.
The money value of my gold will hopefully continue to be anti cyclic to my ETF so that i can balance them against each other.
