If you live in the UK you'll want to buy either Britannias or Sovereigns, because they're CGT-free; otherwise it doesn't really matter. Although 1-ounce coins are going to be better for barter.

Currency collapse won't necessarily last all that long, see again the picture to which I just referred and the part where it speaks about "the miracle of the Rentenmark." Junk silver is best for barter. You can also split gold and silver up into as small fractions as you like with gold-backed cryptos like Kinesis Money (or any government could do it simply by issuing a gold-backed currency, which is in fact what Russia, China etc. are about to do).
