Its almost impossible to get into the academies or get a full ROTC scholarship these days. A top 10 undergrad education + guaranteed job with pretty decent earning potential + terrific resume booster is hard to beat.

You need a Bachelors to become an officer, you have to go the OCS route which is competitive these days with the downsizing and the economy being shit. Making bank as a pilot is enticing to a lot of people including myself.

You better be perfect scoring the PFT every time or you wont have a shot, you better be STEM unless going marine officer like I did and I was an accounting major.

GI bill is pretty shit for paying for big name school. I plan of going to a top 10 law school, I have a 4.0 from a state masters of accountancy program that I just finished up before getting selected.

Your best bet is to just save and invest all the money you make while youre in. It is fairly easy as your expenses are nada. Pilots make the most btw.

You will be very lucky if you get selected for OCS and make it through. Its like getting selected for big law but you also have to be physically perfect and also be a natural leader.

Much of this thread has misinformation. JAG requires a law degree as you get accepted as a JAG officer. Marines arent currently taking apps for it, so youre out of luck there.
You enlist as a E4 if you have a Bachelors, becoming an officer is a huge deal. As an officer, they are training you to lead 30-40 men into battle from the day you go into active duty.
Dont enlist, the pay is shit and you will be taking orders from a guy the same age as you and that you dont like.
