My Dad went into real estate, went -400k in the whole when the 08' recession hit, and had to play poker just to avoid losing the house. Now he got everything paid off along with 12 rental properties and 3 companies. I'm his only child after a shitty divorce and he doesn't want to get remarried again and lose his accumulated wealth to some whore so it's all going to me eventually. Now he just chills at home, smokes weed everyday, and maybe works 10 hours a week of real estate work while collecting passive income.
