The alarm bells are louder than ever before. If they don't raise rates inflation is coming back harder than ever and creditors are going to become very angry. Nobody gives a shit how shocked the peanut gallery is, you really think they'll fuck over The Jew by letting all our debt get hyper-inflated away into nothing? Rates stay like this all year, inflation increases in spite of it, then they have to raise rates anyway, or they raise rates early and crush it. More likely they just fudge the numbers until election and Trump is left holding the bag of flaming shit than is the US economy.
