I don't understand why people on Hackernews and elsewhere are praising remote work as if its some sort of boon. Why the fuck would an employer choose you, who's living in SF or Boston, over someone who is willing to work for a cheaper salary in Kentucky or Texas?

In an even more extreme and drastic scenario. How the fuck am I gonna compete with someone in Moscow or Ethiopia that can do it for even cheaper? How the fuck is this shit sustainable? I am legitimately having a crisis. It doesn't even have to be a poor country, it could be somewhere in Eastern Europe or whatever the fuck. How is this shit going to work for people living in HCOL areas?

If you haven't understood that there are mechanisms that make people poorer, you haven't been paying attention. Inflation is high, supply can't be easily modified by policy so they are killing demand, demand is still high due to the amount of money still in the system so they are just going to keep hacking at it until it gets into a manageable position.

Companies are going to shrink for the time being, lots and lots of companies are about to get wiped, they just managed to get one more robbery in before closing doors through corona gibs and mega money printing.
