i am an air force reservist and am getting out in january. it really depends.

the air force is great if you really have no direction towards what you want to do with your future. whatever you do though, do NOT pick aircraft maintenance, security forces, or any kind of shit job that sounds like you'd be a 'soldier' fighting terrorists. pick some shit that can translate over easily into the civilian sector, or you will piss away 4 or 6 years

aircraft maintenance (i do this) can be great, but way way more often than not it is shitty. you will work extra hours in the heat/cold/rain whatever the fuck and still get paid the same as someone sitting in a desk.

NEVER give more than you need to. if you have cool supervision and cool coworkers and you can go the extra mile to help them, then definitely do that. but the air force as a whole does not give a shit about you. i work with a civilian who was active duty for 20 years, earned his retirement, then was told by doctors that he has a disease that will kill him in a few years. he will never live to receive his retirement, and the air force told him he's not allowed to transfer it over to his kids, only to a spouse.
