In his book “Fooled by Randomness” Nicholas Nasim Talib gives one singular piece of advice to anyone deciding to get into trading: learn an instrument alongside it.
This achieves two things, firstly it means you will at least end up with ONE skill at the end of X years of trading, and secondly it serves as a constant reminder to your own mind the difference between luck and skill. Because as you begin to see yourself improve in your chosen instrument and consistently do better, day in and day out, you will contrast it with the stochastic nature of your “good days” and “bad days” of trading. Thus helping you gain the self awareness to distinguish between luck and skill.
That being said after four years of crypto trading and having made AND lost nearly a million dollars THREE times. The third of which was very recent and I told myself “no way does this trade go wrong a third time, this time I make 5 mill and cash out” obvs I failed but that’s not my point. My point is although I didn’t pick up an instrument I’ve discovered that I am completely and utterly numb to pressure, disappointment, and psychological pain. How can I profit from this?
