Yeah, I know those american eagles (all versions) cost more, but I'm not convinced about this premium business being worth it. Especially not if you live outside the US. Even in the US this premium might not hold up in the long run. You can buy today some britannias just a little over spot, and the dealer will buy them back for spot. There is no extra "boomer eagle premium" variable in this equation that leads to speculation. And I think that makes it a safer bet overall. Instead of paying those premiums, you just buy some more britannias or maples or such, using the money you saved from not paying those premiums.
Plus this premium feels a bit artificial. The early 20th century coins aren't really numismatics, I think you have to go a bit farther back for that kind of stuff. So it feels kind of artificial, like some boomers just decided to start writing "frosty mint" and such on coin packages, just to jack the price up. Well I'm just not buying it, mate. Especially since I'm primarily stacking to preserve my savings, so I don't tend to deviate much from the cheapest common options.
Pic is a coin that I'd say deserves a premium. Yeah, that makes sense in this case.
