banks/creditors are not moral instituitons. there's no moral imperative to pay back a loan. debt has has an interest rate because they are (supposedly) taking on the risk of not getting paid back. except student loans are exceptional in that they're one of the few loans a debtor cannot default on, as the gov will garnish wages and tax refunds because they guaranteed repayment to creditors by law. this ia called usuary and there are usuary laws in place with exceptions to student loans because fuck you pay me.

overall i'd like to aay that loans/debts aren't inherently a bad thing. it's simply matter of who is bearing the debt. targetting people who you know can't pay the debt back, i.e. 90% of US college students, is usuary and predatory practices that cannibalizes a society from the inside out. it's literally a matter of national security when your citizens are being predated on by financial and educational institutions that compromise the economy and welfare of citizens for profit.
