my credit used to be 720+ but then I went full retard and it's now under 600. I am currently 9k in debt between several credit cards. Paying it off within 6 months or less isn't going to be a problem though.

I want to raise my credit score as high as possible while clearing the debt. Which is better towards raising my score again:

Taking out a loan and paying off everything up front

or

Paying well over the minimum each time the bill comes?

Like, is there a maximum amount of points your score can increase per month so paying more per bill has diminishing returns?
