>Spain has been forced to distance itself from the European Health Emergency Response Authority (HERA) to accelerate the arrival of Tecovirimat, an antiviral drug to treat patients infected with monkeypix. The Government has bought on its own a "small stock" that is already available in the health system in the absence of a faster response from the community body.
>The Executive has explained in a parliamentary response sent to the Congress of Deputies that it has opted to manage this initial shipment through the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (Aemps) to deal with the "immediate needs" caused by the entry scene of this zoonotic viral disease typical of areas of central and western Africa.
>Despite this decision, the Government does keep the door open to adhere to the centralized purchasing plans that the community bloc is deploying. HERA has already maintained "contacts" with several pharmaceutical companies for the supply of this antiviral, which is the only one that currently has the approval of the European Commission.
