I haven't slept more than 3-6 hours a night in months, average is probably 4-5. I wake up at 620AM, drive an hour to work (no choice, because I'm an outage worker and its the closest hotel), work a 12 hour shift, drive an hour back, then lay down in bed and cant sleep.

My legs twitch, my heart races, I sometimes try to drink or abuse drugs to relax but it only provides temporary relief.

Last night, I got maybe 2.5 hours of sleep and I am two hours into my 12 for today. This week, I will earn approximately $5500 after taxes.

It's so weird because I do feel like a slave. I feel so anxious, depressed and sick all the time when I work because there is no time for recreation, sex, or anything, and my work stresses me out so much that I can't sleep, so just toss and turn every night for hours. One more month of this hell and I'll get the rest of the year off.

Anyone else do outage work like this and hate their life / can't sleep? What do?
