Because ever since the dotcom era the flows of capital have been directed heavily at tech companies that by mid 2010s have peaked in effective customer growth but because tech CEOs and executives and VC investors are dumb and/or psychopaths they keep draining capital to chase even dumber and useless garbage in hopes of trying to find new wealth in areas that are already tapped and a waste of time and energy to pursue. The shorts needed a death-blow in a timely manner and they aren't getting one. Closing their trades is going to be catastrophic not only for themselves personally, but giving the longs capital to double down on other weak points will blow out major institutionals that are exposed. This is a hail mary play that just got intercepted. It is NOT going to work and they know it. The longs flooded the opposite of their trade and they are absolutely red in the face full of RAGE.
