That's the first part of getting old and dying anon.

You get over it. Maybe you are lucky and have wife and children. Maybe they were young enough to meet your children before they died. Or maybe none of the above. The cold loneliness makes getting over it harder but you still do.

Then your first parent dies. That's when it really hits you. You really aren't that far behind.

Your children are grown up now.

The signs of age, the dull pains. You notice you can't do the same things you used too. You are catching up with your elder parent.

Both your parents are dead now. This has accelerated at break neck speed. It seems like only yesterday that you had your first child. It was half a lifetime ago. You now wait for the end.

If you were lucky enough to get married and stay with her. You are both old. Maybe you outlast her? And set off for the void by yourself. Or you are just shelved away alone waiting for the end.
