I'm 28 and basically ignored school all my life until I was 25 and took a two year marketing diploma. Turns out I hate marketing, now I'm either looking at starting a business or continuing to learn to code and getting a coding gig. Thoughts?

No. What they need to do is figure out a way to disincentivize making student loans in the first place. The whole reason we’re in this mess is because it’s TOO easy to get loans to go to school. Colleges have no problem expanding in size and jacking up tuition to soak up the extra money in the system. I graduated a mere 16 years ago and I was paying like $2400 per semester in tuition at a major state university. And people were bitching that tuition was too high then! Extra $ sloshing around has made it like 4x as expensive now.
