You arent going to get a professional 3d printer for that price range. You will get one of the little DIY printers, like the robo3d, the solidoodle, etc. Most of the companies now are selling them preassembled, but some arent.

The big thing is the cheaper printers don't have the software support of the more expensive ones, and usually rely on open source software.

The form 1 is also in the upper 2 grand, and the resin is about $100 per liter, and a bunch is wasted each print. No thanks. 100 microdicks is good enough for me for the price im getting it at.

I don't get that though. A simple model like a solidoodle for $900 printing ABS should provide the same results as a stratsys $12,000 model. The printing resolutions are the same, and the materials are the same, what makes them different other than the software support?

Well that's my dilemma. I'm not sure. They were funded with kickstarter, and the backers havent even got their models yet. So there are no reviews about them yet. That $500 is for the basic bare-bones model. No heated build platform, so it's not ideal for printing with ABS, just PLA only.

I was hoping anon >>348965 could tell me how well the solidoodle works, and if it prints at 100 micron resolution consistently, because i may just get that instead.

This is to give you an idea of what im used to, and the simplicity im looking for. I know you guys are used to using things much more powerful, so i may be asking the wrong place.

I already know max and maya are beyond me. They are meant to be powerful programs, like blender. Again im not looking for something powerful. Im looking for a program that works off a simple grid and shapes. If it's meant to create beutiful 3d renders, it's not what im looking for.

Ill look more into sketchbook and zbrush though.

I was looking into the robo3d because of that claim, but if you can tell me i can get the same from the solidoodle, i will get that instead, because i havent heard from anyone that has used the robo3d at all yet, and would rather buy off of a recommendation.

I tried Blender, but it's too advanced for me. I'm looking for something really simple to use. I'm not trying to make 3d movies here, i'm just doing fun low-resolution toys and games specifically for 3d printing. At this point it can't handle high resolution stuff.

Is google sketch-up easy to use? If so, can it make files for 3d printing (like stl files) or is that something i need to buy?

This is good info for me. Is it easy to get it configured to 0.1 mm layer? Ive been shopping around, and being able to print at that layer level consistently is important to me.

I'm new to this board, and i mainly come here to ask a single question. I am grateful, sir, that you made this thread.

My question is i need a babbys first 3d program. Mostly so i can make simple things for 3d printing. I used to have tinkercad.com, which was perfect for my skill level, but they dropped it completely.

What would you recommend for me to use now?

pic related, its some /tg/related stuff ive made using tinkercad.com intended for 3d printing.
