Daz devs are absolute dogs. If they had any brain, they would stop with the coomer barbie bullshit, and focus on some more interesting use cases.

They could open source the whole platform. Help people integrating stuff like Stable Diffusion into to platform, so you can do do inpainting and img2img straight from the studio. People could also start to make their own HD morphs.
They could make make official blender and UE rigs for the G8 and G9. They could kill the Iray and opt for something that both Nvidia and AMD cards support and while at it, kill the filament too and get the unreal renderer for real time.
They could implement stuff like soft body physics and better animation tools.
Daz shop would be a place for people to buy assets not only for daz, but for blender too and other 3D pipelines.

well in your case I would do minimum paths when tracing and no sub divs. Also render in chuncks and not the full image at once.

Might have found the reason why Iray has the same plastic-like look that older computer graphics used to have. It uses Phong BRDF. Everyone else, including real time game engines, moved to more physically based distributions like GGX a long time ago.

Does anybody know how to apply poses from daz3d to the marvelous designer so that dress fits perfectly? Whenever I do the simulation on MD and import it to Daz, it looks fucked up when parented, and even turning the genesis morphs 0 doesn't fix it. well I am used to working in UE3 so it was a bit of a jump for me. I only used UE4 a little bit and made a couple of mini games and such.
UE5 is really only interesting for me when it comes to rendering because of nanite. Making massive landscapes and environments in DAZ, Blender or Maya is just such a pain and process power needed scales to the extreme. With UE5 I can much much easier create what I need.
Also after setting up your mats for your DAZ models its very easy to use them. Sure UE5 lacks some things that you need 3rd party tools for but since I am used to working in Maya I really am not missing anything.
Only thing DAZ got going for it is the amount of content at hand. But since I have been moving to custom unique content (making it myself) that aspect is not as appealing anymore.
Also ive been working on animations and want to do short cinematics and DAZ is practically useless for that.
Anything in particular you are interested in? Also UE5 documentation is 100x better than DAZ.

Daz should turn Studio into a FULL Blender addon and just dump Studio the standalone program. They obviously either don't have the needed manpower to maintain and further develop a standalone monstrosity like this or are actually incapable.
The viewport performance is ATROCIOUS and their render engines are sluggish and limited.

I had a similar idea for something like this in Daz Studio. I was planning on using joints and creating a non-dynamic soft body effect. The issue is that it's very geometry dependent so the end effect will pe dependent on how good the topology is. An advantage is that it would also be editable in the viewport. Too bad their SDK is depricated and have no idea how to create an add-ons for it.

also remember to uninstall it completely and go to the blender directory where plugins get installed to and delete it from there too otherwise you'll get some conflicts and it won't work right, struggled with that for a couple hours

also I always have to set the transparent light bounces in the render setting to like 30 or 40 other wise the hair planes will block each other and make it look black in some parts, about strand hairs no idea haven't messed with it

You need to do each character individually if you want to get them right, I take around 1 or 2 hours messing with each of them and their shaders to get them how I like

scenes on the other hand, I just went into DAZ, opened and saved this scene and imported it into blender and viewport rendered it in the time span since my last post, no messing with materials or anything, so judge for yourself

Long time customers have issues with loading time for Gen 8 figures because it's overbloated with thousands of morphs. There's no real way to fix this issue as Daz3D has the most organized content library out there and it's still a mess. So why not just start over?

So gen 8 and 8.1 still have the best morphs packs and will remain so forever.
Just morph the body and face however you like in gen 8 and convert it to gen 9.

nah its just not perfect. Some angles look spot on while others... not so much. Since you cant model the sub div mesh without being a PA I have to only edit the base genesis 8 mesh. Its kinda hard to get everything right as you have very limited vertex to work with.

it does but not as much as you think. And most of the extra vertex points are not located in the face.
Gen9 have a more uniform even base mesh that makes it great for using as an actual base mesh for a host of different characters. However the face only has 30% more vertex than gen8 and most of those are not located in important areas (which makes using gen9 a bit of meme).

Do I have to restart DAZ Studio every time I make a new render? Because when I try to render something, it properly uses my GPU (RTX3070), but if I keep using the program, it only uses the CPU. Okay, I found some information, apparently sometimes the program doesn't clear VRAM after rendering something, and on the next rendering attempt it will simply assume there isn't enough VRAM and use the CPU.
If I go into the "render" part and then "advanced", and check the CPU+GPU, the memory is immediately "cleared". So basically before you do the renderings you need to check CPU, then uncheck it to free up VRAM for the next render.
This is bizarre but apparently it works...

The iray preview also seems to consume some of the VRAM so it is better to try to close its frame before rendering for real. But I never did that before (even with a prehistoric GPU like GTX 980) and I had no problems. I don't know if this is a somewhat recent problem. All I know is that the 8GB of my RTX3070 doesn't seem enough for even the simplest scenes.

I also recommend downloading this program to monitor the GPU. When I click on CPU in the rendering part, I can see that the memory used immediately drops to 2.8GB. Then I remove CPU and leave only GPU checked (seems like the right thing to do).

well doing 3d back in the day was hard. You had to optimize to get anything looking decent out. People today shit on old games but would be fucked if they would try to achieve the same on that hardware back then.
also stop subdiv everything. In a single subdiv 3 genesis 3 model that are more polys than and entire scene in something like DOOM 3.

well obviously. Its such a minor difference that it should be called something like Unified Gen 8.2. I mean its just there so they can sell you more stuff (cant blame them for that) but really it offers very little.
As I said its better for doing non-female humanoid characters like monsters. Its also better at doing male models than gen 8 male (but not much).
All in all its just plain meh and I get that most people cant be bothered to adopt it fast. It will properly become the go-to over the next 2 years or so (unless DAZ release Gen 10 which is actually a noticeable upgrade).
lastly gen9 is a response to Metahuman with its more game friendly UV/base mesh layout. It just so happens that metahuman is a nothing burger that nobody really cares about.

yes ofc textures / shaders take up a massive part but do not underestimate just how silly large some assets are in vertex count. We are talking millions of vertex for some stuff. Something like that will eat 512-1GB of VRAM simply loading the assets coordinates.
So unless you need to, do not subdiv, dont use default hair and such. Use the good old tricks of bump and normal maps to avoid that insane amount of mesh density you need for fine detail.

How the hell do i actually get good lighting/colors in daz? I can pose fine, fix clipping, setup dforce, sculpt, etc but the great filter seems to be lighting. I was scrolling through this artist's stuff on pixiv (picrel) their portraits are great (though everything else is guro and shotashit...). I feel like I'm stuck in the middle between dazboomer and pro. I tried looking up lighting tutorials on youtube but all the results are even shittier than mine. I can get something somewhat decent with HDRIs, but the instant I try lighting interiors it falls apart.

Yes, but I want to create custom deformations. I can't show it here because it is an NSFW image, but with Mesh Grabber you can for example take some vertices of the boob and pull/push, etc. If done carefully this creates an interesting effect. By the way, the Mesh Grabber is useful for several things, such as deforming a cloth when it is clipping somewhere.
DAZ Studio has this function by default, but the mesh grabber is a shortcut and you don't have to do anything but click and move whatever geometry you want.

to clarify, after you done wrapped the model and imported it into daz, load it, and sub divide it to 3 or 4 depend on your liking but 2 is more than fine, and then export it. Remember to delete eye lashes and stuffs.

any marvelous designer chads. When I import the morph back to DAZ and fit it to the character It's lower than it should be when I have it at 100%. Any way to fix this? I can't just translate the clothing up a little?

What I'm talking about. If I could just move it higher up it would be the perfect fit. But I have to fit it to the character for posing and it's lower than where it should be

I paid $1400 for a fucking RTX3070 back then, but I had no option because I depend on the PC to make money ($1500 a month or so). Now I live with the reality that 8GB of VRAM is nowhere near enough to render stuff.

Iray is probably rendering with the CPU. Not even when I had a GTX980 did it take this long to render a scene. Monitor the GPU usage when rendering, the program GPU-Z is good for this, just click on "sensors" and see the GPU Load.

no it would not. Not only is the 2060 12GB much slower in render times it also has ½ the VRAM. And for anything 3D modeling / rendering outside games = VRAM is king.

Guys, is it possible to use a "simulated" sky box? More or less like Unity or Unreal where they simulate an atmosphere depending on where the sun is, creating a dome?
Or do I necessarily need to use an HDRI for this?
