Yeah, that was my first project and i was so tired after fucking with texture mapping floral pattern on the plate that i neglected "table" and wall somewhat. I figured that it would look just like the table was rly close to a wall and wanted it to look similar to tutorial's scene for the sake of comparison. I like dark chocolate on doughnuts man, but yeah it was most shader-changed and adjusted part.

How hard would it be for a single sprinkle to come in, hit the icing, and slightly deform where it lands

>> No.925546

With my limited knowledge I think you would have to animate the landing and deform manually, so very hard. Especially if you want it to keep spinning with the donut instead of just falling off.

>> No.925551

>>925546
Shouldn't take more than like 15 minutes. You just animate the path from out of frame, to the point where it hits, then add a child of constraint with influence animated over time. For the deformation just add 2 shape keys, one normal and one deformed. Same thing here, animate the shape key and should be done

Looking good. Just a few notes:
- Slightly increase the roughness on your icing; the reflections are too sharp.
- Decrease the subsurface radius on the custard. Right now you are getting artifacting that makes it look extremely transluscent and tinting it green. Looking at reference you can see it's a pretty uniform yellow/white.
- Add tertiary forms and color variation to your dough. Most doughnuts have a lot of tiny circular bumps from crisping up after frying. Your bump looks more stretched out and horizontal which still makes it look like pastry dough but it looks more baked than fried.

I'm only on part 7 of the tut, but I'm having a kind of hard time understanding how subsurf works. I get that light partially goes into the object, but its kind of overwhelming? should i just ignore it for the most part till later? I feel like my icing looks a little too plastic still.

Looking better but I would get rid of that ugly seem on top. I would mark a edge loop that cam can't see and unwrap that whole top as one. U might have a tiny bit of stretching but that won't matter since the texture is just a solid color

Any normal maps and/or displacement (via modifier)? Would help
>>925615
Good progress, but get back to grinding tutorials. You have skill, you have enough dedication to get this far, now keep at it so you can improve more. You have come a ways but you have a long way to go, don't rest on your laurels. If you feel like you don't know what's wrong, go to the /WIP/ thread or Blender general.
But by far your best move is to continue grinding on tutorials and revisit this when your fundamental knowledge improves even more than where it's at now.
>>925534
>>926174
Good job finishing the tutorial, looks more complex / advanced than the original donut tutorial.
Keep at it, do more, keep going.
>>925777
Keep at it, you'll understand in time. You have to grind a lot of tutorials and piece together knowledge. You can also read about Subsurface on your own; the answer is Subsurface makes something translucent (the prime example is skin) then bounces some light back that matches the color of what's inside, so a Caucasian model that's going to use SS will have a texture that's green or grey (like real lifeless skin) and then red SS (like blood) and the combination will create the lively white/pink glow of a living person.
Human skin, while complex, is a little easier to grasp than the more strange/nuanced subsurface of the icing of a donut or how some light does pass through a tomato or whatever.
Key takeaway: Keep grinding on tutorials, do a little reading on your own, experiment A LITTLE (don't fall into the trap of reinventing the wheel), then move on to more tutorials. Whatever info or technique is missing or poorly covered in one tutorial will be in another (and that tutorial will be missing something but you'll have the info you needed from a different tutorial, it's why you have to grind tons of tutorials).
