so maybe this is common knowledge, but i can't seem to wrap my head around why there are so many different iray skin shaders used by various vendors. take digital touch for example (pic related): they use metallic flakes and it severely increases the amount of time needed to render while not looking as realistic and i have no idea why... anyone?

It most likely just boils down to stylistic choice to be honest. The sheen on the skin's surface meant to simulate how lighting interacts with oil on skin in real life is different depending on shader settings, though I agree that using metallic flakes is certainly suboptimal.

that's not an answer i'd like to hear but it does make sense... and then there's vendors who use different kinds of translucency maps from the standard greyscale i'm used to like kayleyss (pic related)... what's up with that?

>> No.780410

>>780407
That's actually something that really bothers me personally because you'll notice that Aurore's skin looks wildly different under different lighting conditions and is heavily influenced by HDRI lighting in terms of color even when only used as fill for example while looking more true to the color of the texture map while being influenced by sunlight.

The good news is that you can simply create your own greyscale translucency maps in software like Photoshop or Paint.NET and use that style of shader settings instead. You aren't forced to stick to shader settings for anything you use in DAZ, really. I myself often tweak colors down on clothing and sometimes environmental geometry because of how vendors often use true white instead of darker shade of white causing severe color-temperature mismatch.

There's like a thousand chairs on the Daz shop, most of which can't be used as a dildo. That must account for something. Also the armors. You can't insert a pauldron into a pussy, that doesn't work. I know, I've tried.

It was never expected to be the "eevee" of Daz, and far too many people started called it so only to be disappointed when it wasn't. I actually predicted something like that would happen six months ago.

Filament takes too many shortcuts, and has a completely different focus than Daz. It's, at best, a new viewport rendering option, one which can display PBR textures somewhat correctly, sometimes, when everything works properly.

No.

Eevee, especially, has been made with the idea of having a renderer as close to cycle as possible, with heavy emphasis made on the final product looking the same. Putting aside global illumination, the devs actually made the same renders with both cycle and eevee, and corrected eevee until it looked the same.

Filament has been made in order to have a renderer for phones that can churn PBR materials. The equivalent of OpenGL, but for PBR shaders. Heavy emphasis made on being small, easy to use, portable, and looking half-way decent, althought of course not photorealistic.

Filament's integration with Daz will become better with time, the bugs will be resolved, but you shouldn't expect anything like eevee/unreal.

Quick lesson on anatomy: people subconsciously looks for head and feet, first, to gauge if that shit is human. Your head is too big, your feet are too small. Either ensmall your head, enbigg your feet, or best, find the right ratio for both of those. Head too big will have people vomiting on the floor. Neck too big, in comparison to the head, and they'll feel fear looking at your figure, because obviously it's an alien masquerading as an human. You can't go wrong with enbiggening the feet, really, unless it's comic disney proportion.

Then if you want to go for the classic amphora stylised style, also called "muscle bimbo (but without muscle)", just tone down the thighs. The arms are already good for what you're trying to do. The rest is well proportioned. You've already got it, just need to tweak one or two things.

>painstakingly sculpt a high poly model to approach it as close as you can
>collect more pictures, this time to gather texture details
>somehow paint those details in
Sounds like a lot of work, and I just want to masturbate to a 3d model of a particular pornstar doing whatever I want.

don't even bother unless you're already a trained sculptor or you'll make yourself go insane. if you have the skills you can have a basic likeness in an hour from two pictures, if you don't you'll be stuck tinkering with it for weeks and it still won't look right because an untrained person simply cannot judge proportion with the kind of precision that a likeness sculpt requires.

It's not impossible, this is my current attempt at making Nicki Minaj, I posted a WIP above and people here didn't seem to like her or recognize her, but it looks pretty close to me (Altough Im obviously biased). I did hit several roadblocks along the way, mainly because I didn't know I was going to use daz at the beggining, and started modeling her from scratch. That means I had to wrap the daz character topology to the zbrush mesh, and it was a pain in the ass. But if you're starting with the daz basemesh it should be a lot simpler, and faster. It's not worth it if youre an absolute begginer but if you know what you're doing it shouldn't take you more than a week of half assed work. If you're interested, heres a quick rundown of my workflow and some tips.

> Gather a shit-ton of reference. focus on well lit photos, taken with a similar camera lens, preferably a long one, and where the person has a neutral pose with no expression. Put them in Pure Ref and look at them CONSTANTLY.

> Take the DAZ basemesh with ZERO subdivisions into Zbrush and go to town on it. Take one front photo and one side photo and use them as your "main" references. But don't forget about all the other angles. Focus on the shapes and silouethes. Try to match them as close as you can. Ignore the eyelashes, delete them.

> NEVER EVER modify the topology, don't separate the mesh and then rejoin it. It will destroy your UV's and I would argue thats the most important part of the model.

> Import into Daz as morph. Make sure it works. If it didnt it's not a big problem. Take a fresh basemesh and your new morph into maya, blender, or whatever, and match the topology through the UVs, This is why they're so important.

> Re import it. Make sure it works.

> Save it and export as HD for texturing

Comment is now too long, if someone is interested in more info I'll keep posting

Thanks. I tried facebuilder.
A few problems I introduced myself: lack of photos with neutral lighting, lack of photos without hair in front of the face. I just picked some random ones from the net. My mistake.
A big problem with the program: it bakes the texture by blending the photos into a diffuse map. What about normals, spec, subsurface, etc?

Face builder is no good for textures at all. For the model, yes, maybe. Depends on the quality of the pictures you have, as long as you know the camera model and lens, and all the pictures were taken the same way, it should work flawlessly. Literally perfect. But since she's a pornstar well, seems harder to match her 1:1.

My advice? Try to use a video and extract all images from there. So at least all photos match.

Still it should give you a base to work from.

For texturing I'm not an expert, and I suspect my likeness isnt perfect because of the textures. But I reccomend waiting until you have your full model ready. Importing into substance painter and working in there. I Used the generic Genesis8 textures as a base, matched the skin color, and then tried to project a few photos into the color texture, but only a little, to match the shadows and shapes a bit better. I don't think fully projecting the textures gives you a realistic look, as they carry too much highlight, shadow, and scattering, information

>> No.783179

>>783129
Whoops, meant

>>783146
I think it provides an ok base in term of diffuse texture... Very imperfect, but something you can use as a foundation to photoshop on. But it's on their own mesh, and with no other textures, it's a bit useless for what we want.
I've been inspecting textures for existing high quality characters and I think the most important maps are the bump and normal maps. That + morphs gives the most character to a face. I might be wrong.
Unfortunately I don't know how to sculpt.

good luck getting this done anon. As a personal tip - and seeing A LOT of people having this issue: if you solely want to change the base mesh shape (not interested in baking new normals/displ/...) do NOT subdivide. Zbrush tends to overcompensate the smoothing algo and turning the subdiv 0 mesh smaller. If you want to circumvent this learn how to use morph targets (they're godmode imo for this or cleaning/fixing). Import your base mesh, morph target - save current state, sub once, back to 0, switch to other morph target, go back to subdiv 1, save a new morph target on that subdiv level, sub again, ... and so on until you reach 6 (I don't recommend going higher than sub 6 with gen8's, it's unnecessary)

Yeah. The primary issue with knowing stuff, is that people don't quite get it. When you're talking about stuff and you're right, and I mean I read the fucking textbook right, I know every equation behind both rasterization and path tracing right, I know what you're talking right... The tone can change everything.

Morons and low IQ people don't get it. They start pissing on the tone, and they don't get the normals with extra stuff thingy. But stuff are still stuff. Bumps are normals with extra stuff thingy. I'm right, and I can gladly bask in the light of the people who didn't get it.

Genesis model is just a 3d model that Daz has made their standard model. There is nothing special about them other than the fact that there are loads of clothes and morphs that are designed for that specific model. Currently they release their assets for Genesis 8. Which is actually the 4th Genesis model standard.

>> No.788155

>>788123
Poser was a program made so that people without 3d modelling/rigging/animating experience could easily create scenes by placing and posing existing 3d models.
Daz Studio is another program created later on to be its competition and made to be compatible with poser stuff. Daz offered its own 3d basic models and featured a marketplace that became very popular. The basic human models offered by Daz themselves have been changing over the years. Right now they are at Genesis 8 Male and Female. Previous versions: Genesis 3 M&F, Genesis 2, Genesis, Michael 4 and Victoria 4. The Genesis project started by trying to use a single mesh for both male and female (so that you could very easily use poses and morphs and clothes destined for males on females and the other way around) but that proved to give questionable results so they went back to offering separate male and female figures.
This basic figures are offered for free with the program, but accessories such as morphs, clothes, settings, etc are not.

If one can't load the skin directly from the content library, you could either try using the Map Transfer utility, or manually copying texture and slider settings between a G8 and G3 character loaded in the same scene, then build a .duf for the target figure for future use.
